The Staff of Silver Lake United Methodist Church



Our pastor, Reverend Lucas McConnell, is a Kansas native, having grown up in Newton, Kansas.
Following his graduation from Newton High School in 2008, Pastor Lucas received his Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Philosophy in 2012 from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. Moving to Connecticut to attend Yale University, Pastor Lucas then received his training for the ministry from Yale Divinity School, earning his Master of Divinity degree in 2015. Continuing his studies at Yale Divinity School, Pastor Lucas also earned a Master of Sacred Theology degree, concentrating in Christian Ethics, in 2016.
Pastor Lucas is currently a Provisional Elder in the United Methodist Church and also a First Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserves.  Pastor Lucas’s passion resides in the making of disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of both individual lives and of the world – all beginning right here in Silver Lake, Kansas. Encouraging a balance between the head and the heart, Pastor Lucas is committed to leading our church with sound biblical and theological teaching and preaching, meaningful and transformative worship experiences, and constantly encouraging active participation in church mission efforts.
Pastor Lucas personally enjoys many different activities, which include hiking, camping, fly-fishing, going to the movies, traveling around the U.S. and internationally, and especially spending time with his three younger brothers, Stuart, Hugh, and Joseph McConnell.

Currently Pastor Lucas' office hours are 9 AM - Noon, Monday through Thursday.

Administrative Assistant

Christie Cunningham graduated from Topeka High School in 2011. She was involved in all sorts of programs in school, including Jazz Band, Marching Band, Props Crew for the theatre, and many more. Her passions are music, children, and God. Christie started as our Administrative Assistant in March 2017, providing administrative support to all church staff and volunteers. She is the first friendly face you’ll see as you walk into Silver Lake UMC during business hours.

Christie is also the Assistant Preschool Teacher here at SLUMC. Her duties in this position will be to provide a safe learning environment for preschool students by assisting the Lead Director with preparations and implementations of learning activities and communicate with parents about information related to daily routine. She is qualified through the State of Kansas to teach preschool.
