Good Neighbor Mission Report

School is back in session and the SLUMC Good Neighbor Mission (GNM) is going strong!

The Good Neighbor Mission began in 2013 when the United Methodist Women (UMW) became aware of some critical needs that existed with school age children right here in Silver Lake. The UMW jumped into action and began working with school liaisons to provide requested items. When needs continued to surface, the GNM was officially commissioned.
The goal of the Good Neighbor Mission is simple: to make sure that every school age child in Silver Lake has access to basic necessities for school.

This does not just include school supplies! The GNM has provided snacks, clothing for school emergencies, lice kits, winter weather gear, back packs and has even supplemented uniform fees for those unable to afford it. More recently the GNM started providing a mini version of the Backsnack Program to supply food for children who would otherwise be without food over the weekend. Our partnership with the school is paramount to the success of the GNM, and all information regarding recipients of GNM services is kept strictly confidential. Our goal is to lift up, not single out.
The Good Neighbor Mission’s motto is: Faith*Hope*Love*Action, and that is truly what it is. Sadly, the needs are real, and we feel so blessed to have this Mission at work in our schools and our church. If you would like to help be a part of this wonderful outreach, please consider participating in one or more of the following:

Prayer – please keep these youngsters and their families in your prayers as they struggle through difficult circumstances.

Financial Contributions – your contribution to the GNM goes directly to assisting youngsters in need.

Attending GNM Fundraisers – we will be hosting at least two Wednesday Meals where proceeds go to the GNM!

Assisting Renee Lamprecht with GNM Fundraisers – We would love to have you help us during our fundraising efforts!

Thank you for all the prayers and support!
